Safelite Settles Whistleblower Suits for $31 Million

The Case

In January 2023, Brian Williams, a former Safelite manager, filed a whistleblower lawsuit alleging that Safelite had systematically billed insurance companies for OEM (original equipment manufacturer) parts while secretly installing cheaper universal molding on over one million vehicles.

The Settlement

In January 2025, Safelite agreed to pay $31 million to settle the cases in California and Illinois — the largest individual whistleblower recovery in California history at the time of the settlement.
